New Gadgets!!

9:27:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Oh yeah... lovingly introduce my new pink gadgets, beside my sony T70!

1) Pink DS-Lite - No more boring train rides!!

I paid close to $300 to get the console, protective screen, crystal casing, earpiece and extended warranty, not a bad deal huh? Wondering why I dun get PSP instead? Haha, DS Lite is cuter mah and I find PSP too bulky to carry around. Anyway, if I wanna play, I just get from bf lor... =p

The games for DS Lite are kinda kiddish lah but who is there to set age limit for playing those games?? Who cares! Haha..

Btw, there is actually metallic rose colour. The shop owner said most adults will get that colour, where else young kids will like the pink colour. My fren ended up getting the metallic rose for her 7 years old daughter, while I get the pink colour... Hohoho..

2) White iPhone with pink leather casing - My best Xmas pressie!!

The capacity is double of the first patch => 16 gb!! That's a lot of room for all my photos and songs...

Kinda clumsy when sms-ing coz it's different from the normal phone SMS. Give me some time and I'm sure I can master it. Ha, so forgive me if I reply sms slow for the time being....

The photo taken are quite clear despite of the 2 mega pixel, and I love the way I can view the photos, just like flipping real album.

Well, I'm a ipod holder, so this combines phone and ipod, which is fantastic! This reminds me that I probably need to sell off my ipod since it is kinda redundant now. If you are interested in my ipod, please email me, and I'm sure to quote you my best price. I just wanna find a good owner for my ipod. It's still kinda new even though it is already 2 years plus, so I wanna make sure the new owner treats it as good as me... got feeling one leh...

Not to mention, I can surf web anywhere with WiFi connection, and the big screen helps too! Imagine with WiFi enabled but your phone screen damn small, how to surf properly?? No problem with iPhone! I can check my emails, look up for movies screening times etc

Mood: Very Happy ^_______^

Bad Facial Experience

10:34:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

I worried for the "scar" on my face. It's not fading or getting smaller. It's just redden and swollen whenever I apply my normal facial product ( toner, moisturizer etc) Otherwise, it's peeling at a goddamn slow rate. When are you going to stop peeling???

If zoom in and see closely... Yes, I did. I took a picture of it and zoomed in to take a closer look. There is a "burnt" mark on the surface, just like the edges of a crater. And it is all red in the center..

DAMN NEW YORK FACIAL.

I paid so much and this was what they did to my pimple-less face. I mean I do have small pimples here and there due to late nights, menses.. but mine is not a pimple-prone face.

DAMN NEW YORK FACIAL.

And what can be worse? My consultant had resigned from the company and now I have no one to confront. I'm conveniently pass on to another consultant, who will conveniently just push the blame to the previous one.

DAMN NEW YORK FACIAL

I will never sign up for any facial package now. I dun see my dark eyes circle improving, nor do I see improvement in my face complexion.

So why should I pay so much? I must have thrown in at least $10k from all the facials I went.. Ya obviously all went into the drain, fruitless.

I should just get the usual facial products and diligently use them day and night. It might not promise me perfect complexion, but I'm sure I wont get scar from bad extractions.

DAMN NEW YORK FACIAL MY WORST FACIAL EXPERIENCE.

But I do thank you for allowing me to make up my mind not to sign up for any facial package in the future. I'm sure I'll save a lot which will allow me to travel all over the world, maybe even twice.

VERY THANKS TO YOU.

Lousy Scam Call

8:14:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Just another day, I received a call, who represented himself as someone from a newly-opened advertising company. As part of their opening promotion, they had conducted a lucky-draw.... And so coincidentally, I was (maybe one of) the winner.

Without me doing anything, the prizes did sound fantastic... 4D 3N accommodation in Yunnan, China, a pair of stainless watches and blah blah blah. It was all too good to be true and I somehow just couldnt make myself to listen to all this craps...

Yeah. Thanks to my professional... I was pretty skeptical and decided to inquire more..

Me: How do you get my contact number?

Scam: Oh, the advertising company gets all these number from Lucky Draw, supermarket etc..

I noted that the guy had not addressed me by my name, and so I asked further.

Me: What is the name given to you by the advertising company?

Scam: Your prizes include the accommodation .......

I cut him straight, obviously he was trying to avoid the question!

Me: No! I'm asking you what is my name??

Silent for awhile before the guy spoke up again..

Scam: Erm, erm.... All these are confidential information, just like your I/C etc so we are not given these information by the advertising company..

OMG, what a dumb lie!! It's an insult to my intelligence! You mean my name is confidential, but my contact number is not? What can you do to my name, but obviously you can make prank calls if you know my number!!

And how do you know I'm the owner of this number, I could just be a passer-by who happens to answer the call. So how do you "verify" my identity?? Wa Kao...

Anyway, I said " Ok...."

The guy sounded kinda relieved that I did not pursue the case further and chirped " So can I meet you tomorrow to pass you the gifts?"

What?? Do real company go to that extend of giving strangers prizes and deliver to them? Desperate like anything... It sounded so ridiculous for anyone with one brain cell to believe..

Me: I'm not free today

Scam: How about tomorrow then??

Urgh... waste of time

Me: I'm not interested in the prizes.

Well com'on, who dare to receive from a dubious company a free stay away from Singapore, not to mention it's China. So damn far away. What if I kenak kidnap there? Blackmail? Well, not as if I'm rich to begin with... but then you never know what will happen when you are so far away from your familiar neighborhood police..

====================================================================

Anyway, I'm watching the Chn 8 show " Little Nonya"

The bad people are all so wicked, sure feel like squeezing them like little ants!! Everyone else is like plotting against Yueniang! What's the hell?

And she is damn goody-pie.... What's the hell again!

How could a person be so bad, yet another so good?

I always believe that a person cannot be extremely good or bad, it must be somewhere in between. It just like I never commit a crime before but a "small but harmless" theft like kapo food to eat is like a small thrill... Haha..

I'm very side tracked huh? Ok, back to my show!

Absolutely " Absolute Haven"! [Closed]

11:51:00 PM Unknown 2 Comments

Heh, heh, heh, this was the first " food-tasting" I went (please keep it coming), and I was absolutely excited about it!

Thanks very much to Daniel, Ming & xx ( oops, I forgot who was the 3rd partner) of HungryGoWhere. Thanks for making all the arrangements. Not to forget, the kind owner of Absolute Haven and the chef too, for whipping out all these fabulous dishes!

Keke, I'm making this sound like a thank you speech on an award presentation hor?

*********

Walking into the small restaurant, we were greeted chirpy with all the colourful decorations for Xmas. An early Xmas celebration indeed!

Playing with my camera, trying out on the different effects with the different white-balance functions. Which one is better?

Tables laid out, welcoming all the "VIPs" from HGW....
And yes, we were the more kiasu ones, being the early few... haha

Strawberry Water

Remember in my previous review, I mentioned that the drinking water served had a sweet but light taste of strawberries. This time round, I made sure I took a photo of the whole jug. Dun say I bluff you hor, got evidence!

( Only applicable for ice water.... )
(Hot water you also want? You wanna kill all the vitamins in the strawberries izzit???)

Without too much crap, let's move on to the main highlight => ~*~ Food of coz! ~*~

I almost fell out of my chair when I took a look at the menu on the table. Wa Kao, 5-course dinner leh!! At first, I thought we probably just be getting small serving. But to my pleasant surprise, let me repeat myself, it was a full 5-course dinner. Absolutely generous of "Absolute Haven"!

********

Soup
Lobster bisque with prawns & scallops

One look at the soup, disappointing. Dint really look appetizing, I must say. Kinda contrasting as the fragrance of the soup was damn strong. I could smell the aroma even before it was served before me.

But remember I mentioned before, dun judge a book by its cover!!

Indeed I was right =) Look!Generous serving of fresh big scallops and lobster in the soup. But the soup itself was not that fantastic, as agreed by many of us. It was light with a weird taste, probably due to the herbs used. According to the chef, it was easy to cook thick creamy lobster soup as found in most menu. But to make it a lighter base, that was the difficult part. Well hearing this, I guess I will appreciate the soup slightly better, but then it still doesnt mean that I have to like it.. Haha

Starter:
Braise baby abalone layered with crispy white bait base on a bed of asparagus and egg tart top with a spoon of artichoke sauce

This was kinda fusion dish, with 3 totally different bites: Chinese abalone, Ang Mo asparagus tart and fried small fishes. I would start with the least favourite, i.e. the baby abalone. Even though the menu said that the abalone was braised, I cant really taste all the goodness in it. The sauce and the abalone tasted like 2 separate strangers. But again, perhaps the abalone was too small to absorb. Well, maybe the chef can consider using bigger ones? I finished my baby abalone in just one mouthful, and without knowing it, it "slided" straight down my throat and into the stomach, how to taste like that??? Keke

I cant really decide which one was better, the asparagus tart or the fried fishes. I like both actually.

The fried fishes were fried to golden crispy, without being cha da ( aka over fried). I think that should be quite difficult, consider the sizes of the fishes. You really got to control the oil temperate etc. The fried fishes would make a great tibit while watching tv!

Next, the asparagus tart. Simply, it was good and definitely healthy. In the soft egg bed, you found tiny cuts of asparagus. A nice touch without feeling too overwhelming, leaving enough stomach space for the main course & of coz, dessert!

Pasta:
Homemade gnocchi with stew spring chicken topped with foie gras

OMG, OMG... This was definitely my favourite! And that explained why there was a "dedicated" editing ( the 3rd photo of pasta) for this dish... I'm trying to bring out the effect that everything else appear colourless beside the pasta... Hohoho... 想太多!

Anyway as usual, I will use Wiki to kindly "educate" the ignorant rest of us the meaning of

"GNOCCHI"

Gnocchi (pronounced [ˈɲɔːki] in Italian; singular gnocco) is the Italian name for a variety of thick, soft noodle or dumpling. They may be made from semolina, ordinary wheat flour, potato, bread crumbs, or other ingredients of a generic disposition.

Thinking aloud: Who the hell can read the alien words and know how to pronounce?

Who care about the pronoun as long as it tastes good? Except that perhaps you might face some trouble trying to order this. No worry, just memorize the spelling and write it down lor! =p

Why was it special ar? Definitely dun taste like your everyday spaghetti, macaroni etc. Rather, I find the closest resemble will be the Hakka dish - Abacus Balls ( 算盘子), or maybe mochi? The texture was kinda starchy, springy & very Q. And probably because of the chicken stew, you could taste sweetness sensation with every chew.

Not to forget, the foie gras. Hmm, I used to have a "bad impression" of foie gras. Dun understand why people treat it like delicacy, willing to spend $ on just a small piece ( & not stomach-filling) of bird liver. Come to think of it, perhaps those that I tried before were simply not good enough.

The foie gras served in this dish was absolutely yummy! It totally melted in your mouth. Tasted like the fatty part of the roasted meat. Oh so sinful but irresistible!

Erm, I see that disapproving frown on your face... Com'on, it was the best description I could think of, and theoretically I'm absolutely correct. Foie gras is fat liver in French okie??

Special verdict for this dish: Exploding combination which urges you for more!

Main Course:
Mouth watering grain fed beef tenderloin on a bed of temptation "Baked Potatos" glazed with glossy beef & fig sauce

My choice of main course. Again, the size of that tenderloin was generously hugeeee! Wonder whether the serving would shrink if I come on my own.. For now, who cares?

Mine was medium rare, which explained the redness in the centre. Yeah, I'm carnivorous! It was quite tender and chewy, even though the outer layer seems to be slightly charred. Probably the size was too big to control the grilling of the beef? I dunno... But it became "boring" eating the beef after sometime since there was no special sauce, nothing but just beef and more beef.

And hor, it was tough cutting the meat, which they should have given us steak knife instead. I spent time eating the beef, which was converted into energy to cut the remaining beef. Going by this logic, I effectively eaten nothing!! Hahahaha...

Oh ya, the yellowish thingy was mashed potato with cheese. A very rich side dish. Would much prefer a small serving, coz it became a bit too much to finish all.

Cod cheek quazetto with braised pricked cabbage, lobster bisque top with a generous portion of bake codfish

No comments coz I never tried this wor... But I think, it is hard for codfish to go wrong, coz codfish is good on its own! Keke.. anyway, I tried codfish at Haven Absolute before, so I have no doubts that this dish should be quite decent! =)

Roasted crown rack of lamb crusted with fresh oreganos, macadamia nuts, serve with a glacey red wine sauce and lemon mint jelly

Well, I dun really fancy lamb, but I decided to get a small piece from my friend just for taste. Perhaps I was more sensitive, but I could taste the weird weird taste of lamb, even for a small piece. Nevertheless, my fren finished her lamb, so I guess it's still up to individuals preferences bah..

Dessert

Authentic tiramisu

Wat can be better, other than ending a full meal with a sweet dessert? And there was still coffee & tea!

Overall, I enjoyed my dinner with some favorites and some passable. But I guess there is no one particular food that is able to satisfy everyone, so I can still "live" with those passable ones. Haha

Just for info, the food tasting was organized as the restaurant is coming up with a new menu. Please visit their website for their new menu if you are keen!!

My Pimple

9:57:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Before you curse me for being bo liao..... THIS IS MY BLOG, so I can say anything, even my pimple! Humpt!

Sometime ago, I kenak itchy on my left cheek, so I scratched lor.. Then so happened, I was going for facial at A. The beautician at A "managed to squeeze" something out, or well that was what she claimed. Weeks later, that stupid mark still remained, and itchy.

As that everyone says, we should always seek 2nd opinion when it comes to "medical condition".

So I did. I went to B, my other facial place. The beautician at B said that the beautician A dint do a good job in removing whatever thingy in that itchy spot and asked me to make an appt so that she can do a thorough check.

Before facial at B, I went back to A again to "make noise" about the mark & its itchiness. There, I was "conned" again to buy a powder to soothe the itchiness.

Ya, I'm a paper tiger... Said wanna complain, ended up buying product. Useless bum..

When I went back to B for my facial, beautician asked me

" What did you apply on your face??"

" hmm, sth to dry up the pimple lor.......... no.... huh"

" But it's too strong, the area around the mark is burnt too"

*

*

*

*

Can you hear my heart breaking?? I can still hear it vaguely....

*

*

*

" Huh... then, then.... how????"

" Stop applying, just apply the normal toner, moisturizer. Wait for it to heal itself"

Did I mention that I cried during the facial?

Coz the beautician was really damn detailed, she managed to squeeze "things" out from my face even though I cant see. She must have X-ray eyes, to penetrate through the skin surface to see beyond.... And yes, I saw the extracted thingy coz she passed me a mirror.

Hot tears oozed out uncontrollably, with every "press" & "poke". I was holding to the mirror so damn tight, that heat had left my finger prints on the handler...

Ok, back to my cheek mark, not chipmunk ah. It's cheek mark!!!!

DAMN!! My face kenak scarred!! @#$%^@

Only time can heal the wounds...

Ya, that phrase does not apply solely for broken hearts from broken rel'ships...

It also applies to pimple scar!!!!!

My bf suggested taking a picture of that mark and post it online, so that I can "monitor" the recovering process...

Yes, I believe that it will recover... SOBZZZZZZZZZZ

But I decided to spare the rest the disgusting picture....

Zsofi Tapas Bar

1:15:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Check out this new hangout baby secluded in the spicy Little India, only in full operation for a month or so!

~*~ Zsofi Tapas Bar ~*~

Before I go on with what are offered at Zsofi, perhaps it's good to know how it all begun, shared by the young female boss, who is still an undergrad... ^_^

It all begun with her brother going on a Spain adventure. Well, who would be interested in a single guy on a backpack trip without some romance involved??

You want it? You got it!!

Yes, that's right! He met this ger, called Zsofi in his trip. That explained the name of the tapas bar too.

In their short encounter, they shared stories and of coz, tapas & drinks together. In order to make the whole experience more romantic & unbelievable, they decided to part without leaving any contact.. No telephone number, no MSN, no Facebook....

* Slapped forehead * You think acting ar?? And the world is not that small lor....

Oh ya, seen the drawing on the wall in the picture above? It was actually drawn out from a real photograph with Zsofi in it. The center one, squatting down..

For more details, read the full story here!

And if you happen to know Zsofi herself, why not let her know that there is this Singaporean guy, so greatly inspired by her, that he started a tapas bar in her name.... And yes, please leave her contact this time hor!

Okay, end of story-telling. Let's take a short tour around the place!

Moving up the staircase, you find yourself looking at smiling customers who had been here before, perhaps you be able to find 1 or 2 familiar faces. And needless to say, Zsofi was "hanging" there too!

Upstairs, there are plenty of cozy corners for groups of friends to just sit around, relax, have tapas & drinks, make merry together.

There seems to be a lot of drawings on the walls. I wonder whether they were drawn by the owners themselves?? Forgot to ask the owners, why not you tell me when you are there?? =p

Downstairs, there is a bar counter for loners to just drink on their own without facing the crowd. True mah, customers sitting at the bar counter are facing the bartenders only wat... Ha

And small stools and tables as well, for groups that preferred not to sit on the ground( upstair).

**********

Finally, the main highlight => Tapas!!

Tapas is the name of a wide variety of appetizers in Spanish cuisine. The serving of tapas is thought to encourage conversation because people are not so focused upon eating an entire meal that is set before them.

And because tapas is merely small bites, be sure to have your dinner before coming here to chill out!

The tapas selection is not as extensive as I thought so, merely a choices of 10 to 12 items. But the owners are currently still experimenting, and definitely there will be more to come. Looking forward for that! ^_^

Btw, there would be a free tapas with every alcoholic drink ordered. This would mean you'll just have to pay for the price of a drink, and you get to try out their tapas for free!

I went with 5 other friends, and so we got to try out quite a number of tapas free with every drink. But of coz, each tapas was an individual serving, so dun expect a lot lah... Ai ya, 一人一半, 感情不会散!

Chorizo
Traditional spanish smoked pork sausages pan-fried in pure olive oil

Champiñones

Mushrooms marinated with herbs and white wine, gently sautéed

Spanish Salami
Hot Spanish salami, finely sliced

Croquetas de Queso con Jamón
Ham and cheese-filled crispy potato fritters

Calamares Rebozados
Salt and pepper battered calamari served with a wedge of lemon

Brochetas de Esparragos y Bacon
Young asparagus shoots wrapped with bacon strips, lightly pan fried till crispy

Gambas al Ajillo
Sizziling fresh shrimps sautéed with garlic and tomatoes

Albondigas
Homemade meatballs served with a fiery tomato sauce

Tortilla Española
Traditional Spanish potato omelette

Mixed Tapas Platter ($14)
A tasting platter of six different tapas of your choices

We decided to order another mixed platter as the free servings were really kinda small for 6 full-grown adults to share.... Hey, we need to eat okay ( even thought we had just stuffed ourselves silly at Waraku..) Keke

Anyway, the platter was also not very big... hmmm

**********

Enough of food... Com'on, it's still a drinking place. And merry without drinks?? Are you kidding me??? =p

From left to right,
Slippery Nipple ( Sambuca & Baileys) - $9
Cock Sucking Cowboy ( Butterscotch & Baileys) - $9

Kinda sleazy names for shooters. Then again, do we need to treat everything so seriously? They are just names only, for heaven sake! So we were all game to try them!

Granada - $15
Frangelico, White Cocoa, Toblerone & vanilla ice-cream

Our favourite drink! A sweet alcoholic drink, adored by both guys & gals!

Pinata Colada - $7
Pineapple, Coconut cream & Ginger Ale

Erm, I forgotten the names of these 2 drinks.. hehe

And as though we had just came out from desert, we were really thirsty! So we ordered beer, which was currently under promotion of $25 for a bucket of 5! Cheap cheap!

**********

The " Drink + Free small bite" concept is good, and the setting is great for group gatherings. But again, the location is not that fantastic, and the drinks offered is just like other drinking places. So if you ask me, whether I like that place enough to purposely make a trip there. Perhaps not, unless I'm dining or shopping around the area. But again, it's always heart-warming for customers like us to find out more such places to hang out! Keke...
