Priority Seats

12:18:00 AM Unknown 0 Comments

I was sitting on the priority seat, being the only available seat. I really got no choice as I was carrying, my heavy laptop to an offsite office. Haiz, I was seriously suspecting my lappy would put on weight with every step I took. Why cant it be shrinked to a size and weight ( of coz!) of a transit card and yet, be converted to a full size screen when I need to do my work? Shouldnt the "red fruit" be coming up with this practical electronic product rather than some pad? =p

Back to my journey, I was reading some serious email on my iphone, totally engrossed. Some family matters. And then I heard this knocking on the glass panel, and when I looked up, I saw a pregnant woman in front of me. Oh well, some granny taught that I was faking ignorance and was "anxiously" trying to get my attention. I stood up clumsily, dragging my laptop on the floor. At least, the pregnant lady mumbled a "thank you".

After a few stops, the pregnant lady stood up and another passenger took the priority seat. *Shrugged*

Then after a few stops, the guy sitting beside the priority seat alighted the train and I took his seat. Dunno is it a sign that I should be getting pregnant soon ( LOL), another pregnant lady stood in front of me. This time round, I stood up even though I was no longer taking the priority seat. I was secretly hoping for some applause but none came..

What's my point?

That I have affinity with pregnant ladies? Nah...........

My point is why am I being "judged" when I'm slower in doing the right thing and I'm not given the praises when I'm doing the right thing fast?

First of all, the "priority seat" concept is kinda dumb. It is not the first time that I witnessed people looking at the poor chap sitting at the priority seat to give up seat when they themselves can do it. There was even one occasion when I saw an uncle just pointed at the signboard and expected the person to stand up.

I thought the whole idea is to create awareness and kindness to the more needy ones aka the young, the elder, disabled and the pregnant women. But note, the gesture should not be taken as granted. Kindness should be both way.

In the economic sense, we all pay the same fare, if not more. Rightfully, I have the right to take a seat. And if I do give up my seat, I'm doing it out of kindness and not become I'm obliged to. In my case, I was carrying a laptop with all my working tools, and the burden was not much better compared to the weight of the growing baby. Going by the same logic, am I entitled to the priority seat so long I try to stuff my laptop and everything else on top of my belly?

How about the poor guy who just kenak fired and feeling really down? Is he not worthy of a seat?

And how about the girl who just broke up from a 7 years relationship? The last thing she wants is to be reprimanded for not giving up a seat.

LOL.. I'm kinda exaggerating here..

But ya, that's my point. Next time you want to stare at someone who is not giving up the priority seat, ask yourself, why not you give up your seat instead? Anyway, we are all trying to mould a good character and that is a good opportunity to reflect it.

And if you happen to fall in one of the 4 categories, do say thank you if someone gives up the seat for you. Remember, he/she doesnt need to and he/she may also need the seat badly. A thank you will be nice.. =)

Bedok Food!!! Yummy!

12:36:00 AM Unknown 0 Comments

Arghhhh.. I'm so lazy but I wanted so much to tell everyone to try out the food at Bedok.. Life is such a dilemma at times.. =p

Let's keep this short and sweet, ya?

Due to the nature of my job, I get to move around and  I was stationed at Bedok central for approximately 3 weeks. That is a lot of mealtimes we are talking about here, and yet I managed to try something new everytime... Amazing huh?

Bedok is really a food paradise. I mean I dun go to Bedok.. I mean for what? There is no shopping mall or places of interests there mah... So even though I'm a true blue Singapore, holding pink I/C, but ya.. never been to bedok. Hahhahaha.

Me being a "mountain turtle" is besides the point, FOCUS PEOPLE! I'm talking about the food and I mean good and cheap food!

Just opposite the station, there is this hawker centre selling all sorts of food and most of them cost as little as $2.50! That's really cool... I just need $2.50 to settle a meal and so I ended up with a lot of spare. Guess what, I eat more meals there... breakfast, lunch, teabreak and dinner...LOL

Just to name a few, there's this Minced pork noodles stall, which opens only in the morning ( business damn good lah). For merely $2.50 per bowl, you get plentiful of noodles, minced pork, fish ball, fish cake and a single bao bei ( baby abalone). So worth it!

I also like one of the porridge stall here, the porridge so thick and smooth. Mmm..And there's still fried carrot cake, fried gui tiao, curry chicken noodles etc

For small bites, there is the famous Bedok "shui gui" and Tiong Bahru bao. Even the fruit juice here is damn cheap. It's $2 for a big cup and you can mixed fruits or milk. My favourite juice is rockmelon + milk! Shiok!

Further down, there's another hawker centre, famous for chicken claypot, traditonal carrot cake and kuay chap. I only tried the chicken claypot and kuay chap. Both are really nice! Dint get to try the carrot cake there coz it iss never opened when we went there.. Tomorrow will be our last day to try it..*Fingers crossed*

In short, there is damn lotza good hawker stalls and kopitiams around the area. Lunch time is no longer "worrisome" time. You need not troubled yourself if you are here at Bedok. Keke

And finally.... It's FINALLY FRIDAY!!!

Yeah! Give yourself a pat on the shoulder.. You've survived another week! And because of the great job, you deserve a FANTASTIC WEEKEND! ENJOY THE WEEKEND! ^_^

"Extraordinary" Experience with DBS/POSB Call Centre

11:25:00 PM Unknown 3 Comments

I've just called DBS/POSB call centre to enquire a IB fund transfer that was apparently, not very successful as my receipent just told me that she did not receive the money. Before the call, I already knew the following information:

*************************************************************

Oh well, I hate (to the MAXXXXX!!!) to call the call centre but I guess I have no choice... After going through the painful process of dial 1 to continue, listen through the menu listing, dial another number to continue... you know what I meant... Finally, a human being was on the other hand or was I lying to myself, the "human being" I thought was just another robot machine? Read on to understand what I mean.. *Shake head*

Yakking!

9:48:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

Heard from the news that there were comments stating that the fare is now more expensive under the distance fare system. Hmm, dunno how true it is, coz I never really monitor it. Personally, I do feel that it is more hassle in monitoring correctness of the fare deduction since now the fare from A - B - C will be different with C - B - A. In simpler terms, assuming A represents the feeder bus. It may starts of with $0.70 from A to C, but then the return trip from C to A can be as low as $0.03 due to transfer rebates.

I have a "notti thinking" about this new distance fare system. Under the old calculation, there were people complaining wrong fare deductions etc. However under the new regime, it is probably difficult to trace since the fare will appear different as illustrated in the paragraph above. In a way, it "solves" the problems with handling complaints and refund rebates, coz commuters can no longer complain! Oops...

But to be fair, probably this change can really mean fare fairness since it will be based on the distance travelled. Just like taking a cab, you pay more if you are travelling further mah.. Then again, it all boils down to how reliable the system is..

*Shrugged*

I guess there's nothing much we, as commuters, can do except to pray that the system is intelligent enough to do the right deductions..

*********

Put that aside, I'm thinking of going holidays again! Yes!! My hands and legs are "itchy" again.. Keke

Thinking of a short trip to nearby place like Krabi? Anyone been to Krabi, can provide me with some advices like where to stay, when is the best time to go ( I dun wan to go there and it rains every now and then) etc

And ya, I have finally accumulated $50 in Nuffnang, which means I can take out the money le! Woo Hoo!!!

My next target => $100!  ^_^

OK, I finished yakking liao... next review for Royal China (Raffles Hotel) up by this weekend.. Watch out for it!
